Traveling with a ferry can be an amazing experience, and we want to make it as easy as possible for you. Below you will find answers to the most common questions asked by our customers.
AEGEAN | Book a ferry is an online booking platform for ferry tickets developed and operated by Ferryhopper in collaboration with AEGEAN. It offers AEGEAN passengers the option to continue their travel to islands that have no airport connection. AEGEAN | Book a ferry offers the ability to book a ferry trip that fully meets your travel needs and budget. It provides a quick, easy and cost-efficient way to search and book ferry tickets online for thousands of ferry routes.
2. Where can I travel to?
You can travel to any Greek island that has a port, and many more destinations. We collaborate with ferry companies operating routes throughout the Mediterranean, the North & the Baltic seas, as well as worldwide. We currently offer ferry crossings with more than 200 companies and the number is constantly increasing.
On Ferryhopper, you can book tickets for all Greek destinations (islands and mainland), the whole of Spain (including the Canary and the Balearic Islands), the French island of Corsica, Turkey, Italy, Sicily, Sardinia, Albania, and North Europe. Furthermore, we support ferry routes from continental Europe to North Africa (Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia), alongside major destinations in Asia (Thailand, Indonesia, China) and North and South America.
3. Are ferry tickets the same price as those of the ferry operators?
Yes, prices of ferry tickets on AEGEAN | Book a ferry as well as special offers are set by the ferry operators themselves.
4. Are there any additional costs/service fees?
A service fee is an additional charge that may be applied to the ticket value, covering several operational costs such as affiliation services, customer service, bank transaction costs etc. If any additional service fee is to be applied upon the price of your ticket, it will be clearly displayed and explained to you prior to payment.
5. Infants & children: Do I need to buy a ticket?
Each company has its own definition of infants and children. In all cases, a ticket needs to be issued for the infant or child. In order to see the specific discount for this type of ferry tickets, you have to add an adult passenger first and then add your child or infant as a second passenger. Then, you will be able to choose the corresponding discount and the total price will be adjusted automatically.
6. How do I get student discounts on ferry tickets?
On international routes, a discount is offered to all Greek university students, as well as to International Student Card (ISIC) cardholders. On routes within Greece, student discounts are provided for Greek university students that have a valid Greek student ID. Some companies (e.g. Blue Star Ferries, Minoan Lines, Superfast Ferries, ANEK Lines, Saronic Ferries) also provide discounts for students with an ISIC card.
7. How can I be sure that my booking has been successful?
Once the booking is successfully completed, you will be directed to the booking confirmation page, which includes a summary of your trip. In addition, you will receive a confirmation email to your mailbox. You can also check your booking status at any time after booking completion on the My Booking page.
If the booking was not successful for any reason, you will be redirected to an error page explaining why your booking attempt has failed. If you are not sure why this has happened or you don’t understand the error message, do no hesitate to contact us. Please make sure that you copy and paste the error text in your message, as this will help us give you the right advice as fast as possible.
It is important to be careful when you fill in the passenger details during booking in order to avoid typos and spelling mistakes. The standard procedure for changing a booking is to cancel the issued ticket and book a new one with the correct details.
On domestic routes, ferry companies may be more lenient when it comes to spelling mistakes and it is unlikely that you will encounter a problem during boarding. However, if you are traveling internationally or have purchased discounted tickets, you may not be allowed to board the ferry. You should thus make sure that all passenger details are written exactly as they appear on your personal documents. In case of a totally different name filled in, we advise you to contact us so that we can check what the possible options are.
Please also ensure that you have provided the correct email address and phone number so that we can send you the booking confirmation email and contact you in case of last-minute changes to your trip (e.g. due to bad weather conditions, strikes, etc.)
9. What is the maximum number of passengers and vehicles I can book?
AEGEAN | Book a ferry allows you to book up to 4 trips at once for up to 9 people travelling with up to 4 vehicles. If you want to travel in a bigger party, the booking process will have to be repeated.
10. How do I collect my tickets?
Although most of the ferry companies offer e-tickets (electronic tickets), still some don't provide this option. Therefore, passengers may be required to pick up their ferry tickets. You can find all the ticket collection points listed in your booking confirmation email along with your reservation number, ticket number, and information on the boarding process.
In case you are required to have paper tickets, you can collect them from any of the following collection points:
- You can pick up your ferry tickets from Ferryhopper’s offices, near the center of Athens. The address is: Thessalonikis 147, Moschato 183 46, Athens, Greece (Mon-Fri 10:00-18:00 and Saturday 10:00-15:00).
- You can collect your ferry tickets from several outlets serving your departure port. These include ticket booths at departure gates and travel agencies authorized by each ferry company (usually located near the port).
As soon as you complete your booking, you will receive an email with detailed information about all the ticket collection points. You can click on the link for each collection point to view the exact location and contact details.
If you would like to pick up your ferry tickets from the ticket booth at your departure gate, please rest assured that ticket booths are always open at least 1 hour before the ferry's scheduled departure. You can contact the authorized travel agencies to find out their exact working hours. It's worth mentioning that some local agencies might ask for an additional printing cost. This is a very rare occasion and we want to confirm that Ferryhopper does not benefit from these charges. That is why we have added a note indicating that additional cost in case you choose that pick-up option.
Important note: In case you have already collected your ferry tickets, any cancellation or change can only be processed if you return your tickets either to our offices or to the authorized travel agency.
No, it is not necessary to confirm the departure time of your ferry, as it is uncommon for ferry schedules to change.
If there is a schedule change that affects your trip, Ferryhopper will notify you immediately via email or SMS, as soon as we are notified from the ferry operator. We thus recommend that you check your email once on the day before your departure and once on the day of your ferry trip. Most ferry companies also inform their passengers directly via text message in case of schedule modifications (given that you provided the correct contact information). You can also contact the local port authority on the day of your trip to get the latest information on schedule changes and delays.
12. Which documents are required for travel?
Apart from your ticket in a printed or e-ticket format, you should always have your ID card, passport, or any other identity document with you, especially on international ferry routes. Please note that for some regions and depending on the period of stay, you may additionally need a Visa. Always check your destination's official government website and our blog for further information. You may be asked to present the document to the ferry crew or port authority to confirm that you are the legal ticket holder.
If you have purchased discounted ferry tickets, you will be required to provide a document confirming that you are eligible for the specific discount (e.g. student card, ISIC card, etc.). For more information please visit our Discounts page.
13. What time should I arrive at the port?
The standard recommended is 1 hour before your departure time. This may vary depending on the port you are leaving from. Major ports, such as Piraeus, Rafina, Patras, Ancona, Brindisi, Heraklion, etc. are so big that you could have up to a 30-minute walk from the port entrance to your boarding gate. This is why we recommend arriving at the port 1 hour before departure, especially if you have a car.
14. Are there any luggage restrictions?
Each ferry company has its own baggage allowance policy. We recommend that you read the baggage allowance policy of the ferry company you are traveling with to avoid excess baggage charges at the port.
One large piece of luggage per person is typically allowed on board. For ferry routes in Greece & North Europe, passengers are entitled to carry luggage up to 50 kilos. However, for most European companies luggage allowance is usually 20 kilos, except for Italy (9-10 kilos). If you wish to carry additional luggage or special sports equipment, please consider using the alternative cargo services available during boarding. In case you have selected high-speed ferries, we advise you to re-confirm this option with the ferry operator. Generally, ferry companies are not liable for theft or loss of luggage.
Please note that depending on the ferry and your ticket type, there may not be a specific compartment or other space to store your luggage during the trip, especially if you don’t have a specific seat assigned to you (e.g. if you have purchased a deck-lounge ticket). In this case, you can keep your bags next to where you are sitting. Please make sure that you don’t leave them unattended.
In order to cancel your ferry tickets you need to make a cancellation request at least 48 hours before your ferry is scheduled to depart. You can request a cancellation through the My Booking page.
Once you have canceled your booking you will get a refund, which is provided by the ferry company(ies) you had booked your trip with. Please note that there is a small cancellation fee of €6 (euros) per booking. The refundable amount will be returned to the same card you used during your purchase, usually within the next 2-7 business days. The transaction currency used on our website is the euro (€). Ferryhopper is not responsible for the difference between the exchange rate at the time of the initial transaction and at the time of the cancellation.
16.I have already picked up my ferry tickets. Can I cancel them and get a refund?
*** Important note: according to the policy of some ferry companies, if paper tickets are required for boarding and you have already collected them, you must return the tickets in order to receive your refund. This policy is applied by the ferry operators and we are legally obligated to follow it. Scans or photos of printed coupons are not accepted. Please also note that the refund amount depends on the policy of each ferry company. ***
If you have already picked up your paper tickets and you wish to cancel them, you have to return them in one of the following ways:
- If you are outside of Athens (e.g. on an island), you can return your tickets to any local travel agency that collaborates with the ferry company you booked your trip with. You can find the contact details of all ticket collection and return points by clicking on the link in your booking confirmation email. The travel agent will stamp and cancel your tickets. Once this is done, they are required to either keep the canceled tickets and give you your refund or give you the canceled tickets, so that you can return them to our offices in Athens and receive your refund through Ferryhopper.
- If you are still in Athens or planning to visit after your trip, you can return your tickets to Ferryhopper’s offices at Thessalonikis 147, Moschato 183 46, Athens (Mon-Fri, 10:00-18:00 and Saturday 10:00-15:00). Our team will cancel your tickets and process your refund request.
- If you can’t return your tickets in person, you can send them to Ferryhopper by courier or post. In this case, you have to request a cancellation in any of the following ways: by sending us an email, by contacting us via our online chat, or through the My booking page. We will notify you by email as soon as we receive your tickets and issue your refund. If some time has gone by and you haven't received an email from us, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Our mailing address is: Ferryhopper Thessalonikis 147, Moschato 183 46, Athens, Greece
We strongly recommend sending your tickets via registered post. Please note that Ferryhopper is not responsible for the loss of your tickets in the post.
Kindly note that the applicable cancellation policy depends on when we receive the tickets.
17.How can I change my ferry ticket?
Ferryhopper offers an innovative & autonomous service for all customers, the online trip modifications, available with most ferry companies. You can either change your booking directly through My trips/My booking or, in some cases, complete the modification in chat.
Please note that Ferryhopper charges a modification fee per request, which is waived for passengers who have added the Support Plus/Flexi service to their booking.
Furthermore, if your ferry’s departure is scheduled within the next few hours, please check the ferry company's policy, as modifications may not be allowed. You can always modify your booking by visiting one of the ticket offices or travel agencies located at the departure port. Their addresses and contact information are included in your booking confirmation email.
Important note
If you have already picked up printed tickets, you must visit our offices or a travel agency in person to return the tickets before making any changes.
Port Office Changes
Making changes to your ferry booking directly at the port office involves several important considerations:
- Loss of Access by Ferryhopper: If changes are made at the port office, Ferryhopper can no longer access your booking for further modifications, cancellations, or support.
- System Limitations: Changes made at the port office may not synchronize with Ferryhopper's system, meaning updates may not appear on your booking confirmation email or the Ferryhopper platform. We recommend confirming any changes with the port office and retaining written confirmation for your records.
Some ticket types such as special offer tickets are non-refundable and non-amendable. Also, no refund is provided in case you request a cancellation at a time that does not comply with the ferry company’s cancellation terms and deadlines. Moreover, no refund is provided in case your tickets are printed and collected, unless you return them to the locations described in our cancellations section.
The refund terms of your ticket are governed by the ferry company’s policy and not by AEGEAN | Book a ferry. Before you purchase your tickets, you are asked to read and consent with the terms and conditions of the website as well as those of the ferry company; reading these terms is a very important in order to understand the service you are purchasing.
19. What if I lose my ticket?
Unless you have an electronic ticket, then we are sorry to say that without presenting the physical tickets, you will NOT be allowed to travel. The paper ticket is required to board and it cannot be replaced by the booking or the ticket number. In case of loss, you are required to buy a new ticket and fill a request for ticket loss at the local agency of the ferry operator. Afterwards, and on the condition that the lost tickets have not been used within a number of months, your ferry operator will examine your case and contact you directly to inform you of the outcome and the possibility to provide you with tickets of equal value. Please note that this is not a cancellation, so they will only replace the tickets, not refund you. However, this depends on the ferry company’s decision.
Do you have more questions?
As your tickets are issued through the collaboration of Aegean Airlines and Ferryhopper, you can address your question directly to them. They will be more than happy to help! Contact us

Third Provider is solely liable and responsible in case of non-availability of the selected and paid service, in case of faulty provision of the selected and paid services, in case of error, omission, violation, or refusal to provide. In case of injury, death, destruction of property or other damages (such as delays) due to the defected provision of the services, Third Provider is solely responsible and liable for any compensation.

Any reference to other websites facilitates the use of Ferryhopper.
5. Mediation of Ferryhopper for booking of travel services
5.1 Bookings
By filling in the relevant fields of the booking form on Ferryhopper, the User gives an order to Ferryhopper to act as an intermediary of travel services provided by Third Providers. The booking order shall bind the User in each case. In case of changes to the scheduled booking of your choice, which fall within the area of responsibility of a Third Provider (e.g. in case of delay or cancellation of the travel itinerary), the Company will make an effort to contact you in your e-mail or your phone number, which you already have provided to us, in order to facilitate you and inform you about the relevant changes, provided that we would also have been timely informed by the responsible Third Provider.
5.2 Combined trips, indirect trips, and travel itineraries
It is clarified that the combination of the travel itineraries does not mean a combined sale of the relevant ferry tickets, whether the services provided by the same or different Third Provider. In simple terms, each ticket is always sold separately. The user who chooses to buy a combination of travel itineraries with an intermediate destination has the sole responsibility for the successful completion of the combined trip responding to time limits (e.g. boarding time) set by the terms of each Third Provider. The Company acting as an intermediary is not responsible or liable for any changes regarding your reservations (e.g. modification of the time day or route of a trip or choice of inadequate waiting time between the trips or any other cause that will not allow the customer to complete the combined trip). In any case, we inform you through a specific notification, during the reservation and before its payment, for the exclusive responsibility of each Third Provider for the provision of the travel itineraries of the combined trip, as well as for your own responsibility to comply with the general terms of use of each Third Provider.
5.3 Price & charges
The prices indicated in the relevant fields of the Ferryhopper booking form are final and include the value of the travel service or travel product and any applicable taxes and/or fees. The prices of the travel services/products are determined by the respective Third Provider and are communicated together with the applicable taxes and fees to Ferryhopper. Ferryhopper is not responsible for the formation and/or changes in these prices.
For the services provided by the Company as an intermediary there may be an additional fee of the Company (“Booking Fee”). In this case, the Booking Fee is explicitly defined and made visible to the User before the payment stage of each transaction, in order for the user to be informed about the amount of the Booking Fee added to the offered service by the Service Provider and included in the total price of the reservation. In the event of cancellation of the reservation by the User, the Service Charge shall be refunded to the User only if the latter is entitled to a refund of the full value of all the tickets of the reservation in question. In the event of cancellation of the trip for reasons attributable to the Service Provider, the Booking Fee shall be refunded to the User only if the cancellation affects the total number of trips of the specific reservation made through Ferryhopper.
5.4 Payment methods
For the provision of travel services to you via Ferryhopper you can buy travel services by paying with a credit card (e.g. Mastercard) or using other online payment methods (e.g. Digitalwallet). The Company supports payments for Visa, Mastercard, Maestro credit cards, as well as Masterpass payments through the National Bank of Greece, Eurobank and the payment institution “EveryPay”, which is licensed by the Bank of Greece (by virtue of the decision no 280/3 / 23-7-2018 FEK B 3010/25-7-2018), and safely manages payment transaction details, in accordance with the regulatory framework of the card industry data security standard. All payments and refunds are made in Euros (€) according to the bank exchange rate at that time.
The Company is not obliged to deliver the tickets to the user, before the successful completion of the payment procedure. The Company will book the ferry ticket or any other service after the successful completion of the payment. In case that the reservation due to technical failure is unavailable despite the fulfillment of the payment, the Company undertakes the responsibility to immediately withdraw (within the day) the transaction and return the full amount in Euros. The refund of the amount from the customer's bank is usually carried out within 3-7 days and the Company has no additional obligation or liability for any additional bank charges.
5.5 Confirmation of booking
When purchasing any travel service through Ferryhopper, Users will receive a booking confirmation via email. Users are expected to verify the correctness of the details and data contained within this reservation confirmation email and notify the Company immediately, for any discrepancies or errors that may be included.
5.6 e-tickets & physical ticket pick-up
Once your booking is confirmed, we will send you a confirmation email with a link, or an attachment of your electronic ticket (“e-ticket”) and a link for you to check-in online. It is important that you review your e-ticket, as it contains useful information about your trip and the check-in process. Since you are provided with an e-ticket, you do not need to pick up a physical ticket.
However, not all Third Providers currently offer e-ticket options. In this case or in case you wish to be provided with a physical ticket, you can receive your ticket from the Company in the address mentioned in the beginning of these General Terms of Use or from any authorized agencies of the relevant Third Provider (e.g. from the port of departure where the agency of the relevant shipping company is located).
5.7 Modification or cancellation of the travel service
The possibility to modify or cancel a ferry ticket, a trip or another product or service and the cost of such modification or cancellation are set by the Third Provider and referred to their terms of use (e.g. of the relevant ferry or insurance company). For this reason, we recommend that you read and comply with them, as it is necessary for the provision of the travel services. The Company, acting as an intermediary, is not able to influence the terms of use of the Third Providers and that is why our company is not liable for issues regulated by them. For example, the terms of use of the Third Providers may define the costs that burden to modify or cancel the relevant travel service which you have already selected. For modification or cancellation requests of travel products or services, you may contact the relevant Third Provider directly.
To help you make a modification or cancellation request exclusively of ferry tickets, as an additional service, Ferryhopper may handle such a request on your behalf with an additional (i.e. in addition to the modification or cancellation cost set by the Third Provider) fee of six Εuros (€6) per booking, provided that the terms of the Third Provider permit such a modification or cancellation. Therefore, in case you choose Ferryhopper to handle your cancellation request, the above mentioned fee of six Εuros (€6) will be deducted from the refund you will receive in addition to the deduction of the cancellation cost determined by the Third Provider.
In order for us to be able to handle the change or cancellation requested by you, it is necessary that you request the change or the cancellation of the ferry ticket either through the “My booking”page on our website or by completing our online contact form no later than 48 hours before the scheduled departure, in order for us to make the desired change or cancellation in accordance with the terms of the relevant Third Provider. For change or cancellation requests at shorter notice, we recommend that you contact the Third Provider directly.
6. Ferryhopper services
In addition to the services provided by the Company as an intermediary of travel services, Ferryhopper provides its own additional services. Before selecting any of these services, we recommend that you carefully read the relevant terms governing the Ferryhopper service in question.
6.1 Flexi
Ferryhopper acts as an intermediary for booking ferry tickets from many different Third Providers, each of which sets different conditions for the modifications of the tickets initiated by the Users. In order to upgrade booking modifications and provide more flexibility to Users, the Company offers Users the option to purchase the "flexible ticket service" (hereinafter "Flexi"). If purchased during the booking process, Flexi allows User to modify their booking under the following conditions:
i. User may request the modification of their booking without any limitations arising from the terms of the Third Provider. Rebooking is also possible within a different Third Provider than the one operating the originally booked ticket.
ii. By using Flexi, User agrees that one or multiple trips of their original booking are canceled and Company shall make a new booking on their behalf. Users will only be required to pay any difference between the price of their original booking and the new booking. Should the total price of the new booking be lower than the original booking, the Company shall make the new booking on User’s behalf and no additional payment shall be required from User. The Company shall use the refund from the cancelation of the original booking to cover the costs of the new booking. Should the total price of the new booking be lower than the total price of the original booking, the remainder is not refunded to User.
iii. Desired modifications using Flexi are subject to relevant ticket availability. Rebooking is only completed once the User receives the confirmation e-mail. If you do not receive a confirmation email, please contact our customer service.
iv. Any modifications to the booking must be requested at least forty-eight (48) hours before the original time of departure via “Make changes to your booking” under “My booking” page. In case your booking consists of multiple trips, during the booking process Flexi will be available only for trips more than forty-eight (48) hours apart, in which case the price of Flexi will be adjusted accordingly, excluding non-eligible trips.
v. Flexi must be purchased during the booking process and cannot be added to the booking afterwards.
