You may transport your musical instrument on any of our flights, provided it is in a secure hard case. Instruments may be transported either as checked baggage or carried with you in the cabin.
When a stringed instrument is transported by air, it is exposed to dramatic changes in temperature and pressure, which can cause its headstock to crack or snap off. To prevent possible damage, it is your responsibility to ensure that the strings are loosened so that the tension is reduced.
Carriage as checked baggage
Instruments carried as checked baggage will be subject to the policy regarding special baggage and will be charged at the corresponding rate (weight/ dimensions table).
You will be asked to sign a Limited Release Form when you check in the instrument, agreeing that the musical instrument is being carried entirely at your own risk.
Carriage in the cabin
If you wish to take the instrument with you into the cabin of the plane, it will be counted as hand baggage. Its dimensions must not exceed 56cm in height x 45cm in length x 25cm in width, and it must not weigh more than 8 kilos.
If the musical instrument exceeds these limits and you wish to carry it with you in the cabin, you must contact the AEGEAN call center to book an extra seat on the same ticket, at the same fare and in the same booking class. The extra seat may be either Economy (only for Flex, Family & ComfortFlex fares) or Business class. The charges are paid through the call center.
The musical instrument dimensions must not exceed the following:
- On Airbus aircraft, a maximum of 150cm in height x 22cm in length x 42cm in width if the musical instrument is placed on the floor, or 110cm in height x 60cm in length x 42cm in width, if placed on the seat.
- On DH8-100 & ATR aircraft, a maximum of 135cm in height x 40cm in length x 28cm in width if the musical instrument is placed on the floor, or 90cm in height x 40cm in length x 50cm in width, if placed on the seat.
Bookings for weapons / ammunition [sporting/hunting guns, pistols, rifles plus ammunition (according to IATA DGR Regulations and if packed in a separate bag)] can be made only through the AEGEAN call center, upon relevant approval.
The charge per weapon or ammunition carriage is €50(please note that for flights from Cyprus there is an extra fee of €25 which will be paid by the passenger at our ticketing desk).
The following restrictions apply for weapons:
- Weapons are not permitted to be carried within your checked baggage.
- Any arms which are permitted for transportation must be presented in the check-in in a separate case and then carried in hold; carriage in the cabin is not permitted.
- Weapons of war (automatic and semi-automatic) are not accepted for carriage.
- Arms of Police Officers and Body Guards and civilians holding gun license for personal protection are not charged.
- Swords of Army Cadets and Officers are not charged.
- Weapons unloading and suitable packaging are under the responsibility of the holder.
- Ammunition with explosive or incendiary projectiles is not accepted for carriage.
- Any ammunition which is permitted for transportation must be checked-in (packed separately from the weapon) and then carried in hold; carriage in the cabin is not permitted.
- Ammunition must be packed in a strong outer container made of wood, metal or fiberboard.
- Ammunition must be protected, inside the container, against shock and secured against any movement. In general, it must be packed in such a way that it cannot function accidentally.
The passenger is fully responsible to be in possession of all related documentation required by the departure and arrival point authorities, including any intermediate stations.
Until all requirements of transportation of weapons / ammunition are fulfilled and the item(s) are handed to the airline, remains under the passenger’s responsibility.
