Three Airbus A320s will be based in Larnaca airport
May 2011 will mark AEGEAN’s seven years of operations in Cyprus, with flights from Athens and Thessaloniki. During these 7 years, 2.5 million passengers have been served, but above all a relationship based on trust has been established with the Cypriot public with regard to the service quality but also to the company’s commitment to serving the Cypriot market, despite the great difficulties and challenges of the financial environment.
In the summer of 2011, the company will take the next important step. Aegean is launching a direct daily flight from Larnaca to London’s Heathrow as well as six more direct connections to destinations in Greece. In addition, three Airbus A320s will be based in Larnaca airport.
The fact that the company will now base three of its aircraft in Larnaca’s airport has special significance as it allows, among other things, to further improve flight times, but also significant operational flexibility in adjusting and evolving its schedule according to the needs and opportunities of the local market.
This move, combined with the steady development of Athens’ network and frequent connections to European destinations, as well as Aegean’s entry into Star Alliance multiplies the options and capabilities the company can offer.
Dimitris Gerogiannis, AEGEAN’s Managing Director stated: "We wish to thank the Cypriot public and travel market for their support during these last seven years. We always move forward with carefully measured steps, especially in these extremely difficult times. Our presence in Cyprus has matured to the point that we can offer direct flights to more destinations in Greece, but also for the first time to the biggest European destination, London. Our aim is to meet a greater part of the Cypriot public’s demands, with a commitment to quality that we believe defines our company."
Specifically, AEGEAN will connect Larnaca to London’s Heathrow airport with one daily flight, from the 27th of March 2011. The flights will be operated with brand new AIRBUS A320 168-seat aircraft, in dual class configuration offering a full meal and an in-flight entertainment system with six music channels and a movie to all passengers without extra charges. At the same time, the company will start connecting six new destinations with direct flights from Larnaca to: Heraklion, Rhodes, Mykonos, Chania, Kos and Santorini. Moreover, the company will increase the frequency of its flights to Thessaloniki, by adding a second flight 3-4 times weekly.
Therefore, with its new schedule for the summer of 2011, AEGEAN will offer direct flights from Larnaca to London and to a total of eight destinations in Greece.
