International Day of Biodiversity - The Green Wave

The United Nations has designated 2010 to be the International Year of Biodiversity. It is a celebration of the huge variety of animals and plants on earth, the places they live and their surrounding environments. This year people and organizations all over the world are working to safeguard this irreplaceable natural wealth and reduce biodiversity loss.

The Green Wave is an ambitious global project run by the UN Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), which encourages young people to learn about biodiversity throughout the year and celebrate life on earth at 10:00 on 22 May each year, the International Day of Biodiversity. On that day, as the celebration passes through each of the world’s time zones and people upload their experiences onto The Green Wave  website, it creates a 'green wave' of awareness and activity from east to west around the planet.
